I-Con 29 Bound!

As its nearing the end of March, it's once again the time of year for I-CON. What IS I-Con you ask? It's a type of Science Fiction Convention held on the Stonybrook College campus on (in?) Long Island NY. Its been in existence for about 30 years now (this year being the 29th I-Con for example) but I've only attended 5 or 6 of them. Its an odd hodge-podge of topics, with anime, a big dealer's room and misc. guests (Charisma Carpenter of Buffy fame is one of them). I'm psyched for the dealer's room and hope to score some cool finds there. Anyone who will also be at the con this weekend, post a comment and maybe we'll cross paths. Official website is here:

Alien Mercenaries Season 2: Episode 27 starts right NOW

Okay..*counts*... 1, 2..3 months since I posted episode 26 of Alien Mercenaries season 2. Yeesh. WELL, now that the blizzards of '09/'10 have stopped finally, I got some episodes shot (about 3-4 episodes worth of photos) so I'm gonna start getting back on track.

This episode has been a long time coming as you'll all get to hear how Tri'bahl survived the fight with Zov'rass. It's not an incredibly long episode, but should be a good read. Episode #28 should be up sometime this week, depending on how much free time I get to script it. Anyway... here we go!

Alright, *whew*, making progress. This season should have just as many episodes as Season 1 did, so I got a LOT of story to tell still. Next episode is gonna be cool and the one after it will reveal a secret about one of the characters to the rest of the group. What could it be? Gotta stay locked onto this blog to find out dudes! :-D

Update on stuff: March 2010

Okay, quick re-cap on what's going on with the Bah'glenn:

-My fiancee and I moved into our new place 2 days after my last post and things are going well. Still un-packing, but making progress slowly and surely. I think our 6 month old kitten Whedon is more settled into the apartment then we are as he's sleeping in the bathroom sink (like he always did at our old place) again like he's been doing that here for years.

-Got some work as a toy prototype maker and received a nice paycheck for my work. Hey, I'm not making my own toyline yet, but getting paid for doing something toy related (i.e. in my dream field) is pure awesomesauce. Plus it enabled me to place a decent order over at Callgrim.com at the end of last month which was awesome. Here's hoping I still have the extra $ when Matt drops his next big wave of product so I can order a decent amount of stuff there also (i.e. an Armodoc or two provided he's releasing more this wave).

-The snow around here FINALLY appears to be melting away and making way for warmer weather, which means I can now resume shooting Season 2 of Alien Mercenaries. As the weather is supposed to be nice tomorrow, I'm going to spend 3 or so hours outside after I get out of work and do some serious shooting. Time willing, I'll be able to knock out 2 episodes or so which will be awesome. I have an idea for a Alien Mercenaries One-Shot that's more of a comedic piece then in continuity with the series. Think of it in the same way as Marvel Comic's Christmas Specials; the stories inside are tongue-in-cheek and really don't get mentioned in the monthly titles as it's more of just an overall "fun" issue to read around the holiday season. My AM One-Shot will be a sort of expansion on the 1-panel I showed a few posts back with Greh'eck talking to his agent. Should prove very funny when I get the time to work on it.

-As you, the fans, expressed interest in me continuing the One-Shot "Cold Hunt" photo comic, I have finally scripted the photos I took and turned it into a 3-Episode Mini-Series. Part 2 should go up over on the Octobertoys forum this Monday (March 8th), with Part 3 to follow on Wednesday or Friday. Now I have both of these 100% ready to go; all I need to do is cut & paste them into a new topic thread over on the forums, click *post* and Bob's your uncle, so don't worry about these next 2 parts getting shown a month or more apart. It felt great to get this done as I've been sitting on the pictures since Jan 15th (almost 2 months ago! O_O) and I really hate leaving projects unfinished.

Now, for a bit of fun, here are some scans of drawings I made of the 4 Alien Mercenaries, Hurneff, Bore'okk, Snee'grak & Greh'eck. These drawings represent how I imagined them looking were they made without Glyos parts, i.e. with all new sculpts. Check 'em out!

Greh'eck

Greh'eck was a little tricky to re-design as I've always seen his body as being made up of Pheyden parts. Plus, when I sculpted his head I didn't know what the rest of him would look like LoL. Hey, maybe one day in the future he'll get an outfit like this..you never know. ;-)

Hurneff

Bore'okk

Hurneff & Bore'okk were hard for me as I really didn't know what to make them look like. So I just went with a 3-digit hand (2 fingers and a thumb) and gave them the same body type with different outfits.

Snee'grak

As Snee'grak is a Reptorrid, i.e. a reptile, I wanted to give him a tail to complete the look. I also figure, if he was a glyos figure, his tail could be made up of 3 pieces and upon buying multiples of him, could be used to make snakes, tentacles & other misc things. The color for the armor was inspired by a coloration Dr. Kent suggested to me (you can see this similar color-scheme over on his blog where he has his own Snee'grak shown). Now, you may be wondering why Snee'grak doesn't have a tail in the photo-comic. The reason I always used to explain it, was that his tail was lost a while ago and his armor stunts it's ability to re-grow, so it's never seen. Maybe one day I'll sculpt him a tail...

Life being "wacky" again...& a new custom!

Ok, will try to get back on some sort of regular schedule as soon as my fiancee Beth & I move into our new apartment. We've only been here since Sept 21st, and were told over the phone that we need to be out by March 1st so the landlady's daughter can move in. Wish I had known this was going to happen back when we first took the apartment, cause I'd have chosen the 2nd place we were looking at instead. Ah well, hind-sight is 20/20, so there's not much to change the past.

Good news though is we found a new place to live that's only $25 more expensive then our old place (which isn't bad as it's included utilities allow us to cancel one we got ourselves in our old apartment). Also, it's closer to both of our jobs, our friends/family, and seems a bit bigger then our current place. The new landlord is really awesome aswell, so I don't foresee us having any problems with him. We should be out of here and moved in to our new place before the end of the weekend, so I'm very glad things are starting to straighten out again.

New Custom time!
I had this guy laying around from back before the poo hit the fan over here, but now that I have a break from packing, I figure I'll show it off.

Name: Speed-Freek ("speed-freak")
Role: "Hyper Fast Warrior"
Bio: "In the begining, Speed-Freek was known as Cahgn ('can') and was never punctual or on time for anything. When his family was killed in the crossfire of two rival criminals, he blamed himself; if he had been there when he was supposed to, they would have been gone by the time the criminals showed up. He locked himself away in his home for years, pouring over numerous books and texts looking for a way to travel back in time and prevent his family's death. Failing to find anything that could help, he fell deeper into depression. One day, a stranger needed someone else as knowledgeable in the subject of time travel to assist him with his own experiment and Cahgn readily agreed. The two worked for a month before the device was ready, but at the time of activation an unpredicted calamity occurred. A malfunction caused an explosion which destroyed the machine and all notes on its construction. The stranger, believing the experiment was not worth revisiting and Cahgn was dead, left town to return to whence he came. Cahgn, was piloting the time machine during the explosion and had been bombarded with temporal energy which triggered a transformation within him. His body shifted and changed, re-forming itself into a newer, faster, sleeker shape. Dubed the name 'Speed-Freek' due to his odd appearance, Cahgn uses his new body to stop anyone who would harm the innocent. Speed-Freek can travel at speeds of up to 1,000 MPH, in addition to seemingly being in more then one place at once. This is due to the temporal energy that transformed him literally pulling different versions of himself from the immediate past or future, that return from whence they came in a blink of an eye. Backpack used for storing objects during super-fast travel, in addition to possessing mentally-linked air-breaks for additional control when needed. Even though Speed-Freek works best on his own, he is currently being secretly observed by the P.C.C. for possible recruitment in their unit."

Running "Super-Fast"

This was just a quickie I threw together while making Sy'lkk's body a few weeks back. Basically, I'd started out wanting to sculpt something else...and then this head showed up instead. It came out really nice, and I'm not sure if I'll be adding anymore details to it or just leaving it as is. The body is just a Aves Exellis figure with a different torso (one with the backpack socket, not entirely needed, as the figure design works great with the Aves torso too). I had this idea of, as I don't have alot of parts I can use for figures right now (running low on thighs/arms), taking any of the Founders figures and making them into new non Pheyden/Exellis characters with heads that match the bodies. Speed-Freek is the first of this "experiment", but I hope to make more soon.

Customs-palooza! O_O!!

While the snow on my set melts away (stay tuned for an update on this soon), I've been busy making more customs characters with the newest parts I have. Some stuff was posted on the forum, and some stuff is going to be posted here. So be sure to check the Octobertoys.com "Ranic's Custom Configurations section () for other stuff.

Heavy Arms Construction Genedrone: I made this guy WAY back in late may/early june, and I'm pretty sure I never posted the pics anywhere. I invisioned this genedrone being used for repairing damaged vehicles, buildings, space ships as well as being used in construction of buildings. Their large arms provide them with incredible strength and 2 laser-cutters/welders are mounted on their backs to help during building. As they have the back-pack (i.e. "drone") head, they have a very low intelligence and fulfil their functions without much problems.

This configuration eventually evolved into the Zov'rass character from Alien Mercenaries, and as I never got a chance to order more greay phase arms or yellow buildmen parts, I've not had the option of re-creating him. I may re-create this design for other purposes down the road, so don't be surprised if it pops up in one of my photo-comics.

S.O.D. (Security Optical Drone): This was just something I threw together with some spare parts for fun one day. It's since been disassembled but can easily be re-assembled as it's just made up of 13 parts (4 shins, 4 Gobon Discs, 1 Gobon Sphere, 2 Phase Arm Male/Femal connectors, 1 Bean-bot Pelvis & 1 Crayboth arm). I picture these things walking around highly top-secret labs using their enhanced eye-sight to search for any intruders. Laser cannons are mounted underneith them and have both paralyze & energy-blast settings.

(Next to Scar Phyden for scale)

Antixx Ground Trooper: Had the thought for this guy a little while ago, back in December I think, and it took a bit of configuring before I got the shape juuuust right. The head was fun to make, and I really love the colors of green & black; they just REALLY pop together.

As I mentioned in my last post, the Antixx are a very dangerous race of large ant-like creatures that have been plaguing the galaxy for several years. They're really hard to get rid of, and tend to just cause more harm then good once they show up. None of this is done out of malcious or evil intent though; they're very much just like standard Earth ants except bigger and a bit nastier. The ground troopers have 6 limbs (an Aerial Warrior has 2 legs, 2 arms & a pair of wings), two being used for manipulating objects, & two used in conjunction with arm cannons
